Watersplace
The wooden bridge offers its dry planks, a structured promise to the left. But we step down. The clear current spreads wide across the track, a deliberate choice.
Through the ford, a dance of circles, concentric ripples painted from our boots, one pink head, one white, moving slow. The hiking pole tests the shingle, finding purchase.
Ahead, the red brick waits, the tiled roof, a cottage nestled in the deep green trees. Home is a distance away, beyond the water, a destination to reach, a memory already being made.
