Winter Lea
Winter Lea
Boots break the brittle crust of the towpath, while the river has stopped its murmuring, caught mid-breath beneath a shield of ice.
River gazebos stand silent. Their summer laughter is packed away beneath heavy, slumping caps of snow.
Tethered in a crooked patient line, the narrow boats sleep against the bank.
From one small stovepipe, a solitary cloud of woodsmoke rises, the only living breath in a world turned perfectly still.
