Mother and Calf
Mother and Calf
Beneath the ocean's churning surface, a mother humpback and her calf ascended in a synchronized, spiralling dance, exhaling a shimmering cylinder of bubbles to corral a panicked shoal of herring. As the tightening trap drove the glittering fish upward, the water began to boil just moments before the twin leviathans surged through the surface with gaping jaws, consuming thousands in a single, roaring lunge. This eruption of life instantly ignited the sky above as a chaotic squall of shearwaters descended, their frantic shrieks piercing the salty mist. Folding their wings like feathered darts, the birds plummeted relentlessly into the frothing melee, snatching up the disoriented stragglers that spilled from the whales' massive baleen plates, eager participants in the sea's fleeting, violent bounty.
