Pebble Beach
Pebble Beach
Every step along the shoreline was a crunching journey over a shattered, ancient mosaic. The pebble beach stretched out like a spilled treasury of geological time, a chaotic pavement of flint, quartz, and sandstone polished into striking geometry by a million tides. There were stones the colour of bruised storm clouds, speckled granites gleaming with flecks of silver mica, and banded agates that trapped the rust and ochre of ancient earth. Some were perfectly spherical, smoothed into a satisfying, heavy perfection by the ceaseless friction of the waves, while others were strangely angular, newly surrendered by the eroding cliffs above. As the tide retreated, and the sun dried the stones, the entire shore seemed to exhale, the millions of stones settling into a kaleidoscope of colour.
